Lauren Walker – “Where We Sleep” Exhibition at Herringer Kiss Gallery

Happy New Year Calgary Art Appreciators. We have much to celebrate this year! Calgary was #17 on the New York Times top 52 places in the world to visit, largely because of our vibrant art and culture scene. Be part of it all by touring some of the great art spaces in Calgary with Love Art in Calgary. The next tour will feature all new places including two unusual stops; a laundromat and an art filled lobby of a downtown office building.

10:30 – 11:00 LUX Laundromat  1211-14th St SW
Yes, this hip laundromat has a funky art show really worth checking out called “Super dark & spooky: So bright & magical!”. SPIIVAK & Melinda Topilko of Girl Gang Dance Party have about 20 mixed media pieces in the show.

11:15 – 12:00 Trepanier Baer Gallery 105, 999-8th St SW  http://www.trepanierbaer.com/newsdetails/?id=429
TBG is one of Calgary’s most renowned contemporary art galleries and the current exhibit features established Calgary artist Ron Moppett with an installation piece entitled Vincent’s Last Studio based on “the pathos and romantic mythologies surrounding Vincent van Gough.” This is the last day of this excellent exhibition.

12:15 – 1:00 Herringer Kiss Gallery 709-11th Ave SW  http://www.herringerkissgallery.com/
Deborah Herringer Kiss has made special arrangements for artist Lauren Walker to guide our group through her current exhibition entitled “Where We Sleep.” Walker blends feminist traditions such as quilt making and textile work and appropriates those disciplines by adapting them to paint and collage.

1:15 – 2:30 Optional Lunch at Cucina 515-8th Ave SW http://eatcucina.com/website/page/bistrocontact

2:45 – 3:30 Eighth Avenue Place 525-8th Ave SW http://www.eighthavenueplace.com/our-art/
One of the newest and most luxurious office towers in Calgary, EAP features a first-class collection of Canadian modern art as well as a temporary gallery space run collaboratively with Skew Gallery. We will have a guided tour of the collection by Gordon Menzies, General Property Manager, who will also tell us about their new mobile gallery to be launched this spring.

Cost of the tour is still $25.00; payable by cash, cheque or electronic transfer. Payment in advance is required to reserve your space please.
